Onur Özkaya is the Double Bass Professor at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul and he has held the position since 2014.

Desires and ideas which brought him back home to Istanbul after more then a decade of working in Germany in a world-class orchestras as Munich Chamber Orchestra and Mahler Chamber Orchestra, were to try to rebuild and invest his knowledge and passion into developing the Turkish National Double Bass school.

Whilst 10 years of teaching, many young talented students came across his class and they have won many International competitions and auditions abroad that Prof. Özkaya is very proud of. Three of his former PhD students are currently Double Bass Professors at Turkish Universities and spreading further Prof. Özkaya knowlegde: Istanbul Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Izmir Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory and Eskişehir Anadolu University.

Many of his students are giving recitals and playing as a solist with an orchestras, which is supporting his dream, to establish Double Bass as a solo instrument and create sensible, knowledgeable and powerful players.

Prof. Onur Özkaya ideas of teaching are to share passion for Music with a knowledgeable approach mixed with open and analytical mind. He put importance in wide approach of understanding styles and composers, while nurturing Belcanto style and projection of a beautiful round sound with desire to give Double Bass statue of a poetic and story-telling instrument.
